Cindy Surmacz earned her doctorate in physiology from The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State University. She is a professor in the Department of Biological and Allied Health Sciences at Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA and teaches anatomy and physiology, cell biology, and introductory biology. This paper is based on a laboratory exercise that is conducted in Concepts In Biology I, an introductory course for majors, at Bloomsburg University.
